Sitting down with Brennan Somers, News 8 Sunrise Anchor, to discuss Volunteers of America’s “I Remember Mama” initiative—which recognizes nearly 200 elderly mother’s in Rochester who would otherwise spend Mother’s Day alone.

As part of our IRM initiative, I had the joy of surprising Mrs. McCann with a gift basket and celebrating her story. We were both interviewed for the segment, which highlighted the power of simple gestures to make residents feel seen, valued, and loved.

13WHAM News
Every Thanksgiving, two colleagues and I cooked dinner for 30+ men experiencing chronic homelessness. I would also make handwritten cards, and I’ll never forget when John saw his and said through tears, “Thank you for giving me my name back.”

Press Briefings
Hosted a ribbon cutting to announce the opening of new housing downtown for men facing homelessness, mental and behavioral health challenges. 3 local TV stations, the Rochester Business Journal, and WXXI all attended the briefing.

Worked closely with the Rochester Mayor and the Monroe County Executive’s offices every year for media relations, annual proclamations, lighting up downtown Rochester, fundraisers and other special events.

As a Public Relations Coordinator at ESPN Rochester, I supported live promotional broadcasts alongside on-air personalities at local businesses and community events. It gave me a greater appreciation for the behind-the-scenes work that makes live radio thrive.

My love for communication finds its way into many areas of my life, especially my faith. One small service opportunity that I enjoy is recording weekly announcements that air during Sunday morning and Wednesday night services at First Bible.

For A Day Foundation
During my time at FADF, I had the joy of surprising children with cancer at the Upstate Cancer Center—usually suited up as Master Chief. We transformed the clinic into a space of color and laughter, offering tiaras, superhero capes, nail polish, and toys to kids.

Speaker Bio
Jordynn Barnhart Sullivan is a writer, speaker, and development professional with a passion for purpose-driven work. Over the course of her career, she has raised millions of dollars for charitable organizations addressing homelessness, poverty, incarceration, childhood cancer, youth at risk, and elder care across New York State.
She has spent the past decade working in the nonprofit sector, serving both local and national organizations including Rochester Presbyterian Home (RPH), Volunteers of America (VOA), and Hope Hall School. Jordynn currently serves as the Director of Marketing & Admissions at RPH, following her previous role as Director of Communications & Events at VOA. She graduated with an associates from Monroe Community College in Communication & Media Studies, and then transferred to SUNY Brockport to receive her bachelor’s the following year—majoring in Broadcast Journalism & Public Relations, and minoring in Graphic Design.
Her board and committee service includes leadership roles with COM-GAP, House of David, the Monroe Community College Advisory Board, and Children Awaiting Parents. Within her organizations, she has also co-chaired internal committees such as the first Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee and Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) . Before transitioning fully to nonprofit work, Jordynn worked for local radio stations such as ESPN Rochester, as well as several local gyms.
She met her husband, who is also named Jordan, at a boxing gym in 2018. Now married, they share the same first AND last name, a life full of laughter, and two very different versions of the English language—hers fast and lively in true New York fashion, and his full of British charm and dry wit. Home is Rochester, New York, where they’re kept on their toes by an energetic and overly affectionate Boston Terrier. Jordynn is fueled by faith, rooted in family, and always eager to chase life’s unfolding adventure.
